Our Mission is rooted in the belief that humans are an integral part of ecosystems and that environmental health depends on restoring this symbiotic relationship. We do this by reintroducing Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK), with a specific focus on vital wetland and watershed habitats. Through this work, we foster cultural access to ancestral lands and provide education rooted in Indigenous knowledge to heal both the community and the environment.
Our Vision is a future where Indigenous people and traditional philosophies lead the stewardship of their homelands, ensuring that cultural knowledge, ecological health, and community resilience are passed on for generations. We believe this work serves as a model that reflects a wider movement of positive change, inspiring other communities to reconnect with their own cultural traditions and local environments. In this way, Renascence creates ripples of positive change far beyond San Diego County.
Our Values are rooted in the understanding that renascence—meaning rebirth or revival—is about the re-emergence of Kumeyaay cultural values and practices that have existed for hundreds of generations. We bring this enduring wisdom back to the forefront, recognizing that humans are a keystone species essential to the restoration of our lands and waters. Through mutual respect, partnership, and collaboration, we make this ancestral knowledge visible and active once again.
